Research Interests
Sandra has been studying various aspects of the immune system for more than 30 years. Her early research interests concerned the development of the various cells of the immune system, and she authored what still stands as the definitive study of the dynamics of natural killer cells. Since the late 1990's, her research has focused on enhancement of the immune system in the treatment of cancer, especially with phytocompounds (substances derived from plants).
Awards
Sandra has won numerous awards both for medical education and for research. They include the Murray Barr Award of the Canadian Association of Anatomists for excellence in research; the Honors List for Educational Excellence, McGill University Faculty of Medicine; and the Canadian Association of Medical Educators' Merit Award, for her valuable contributions to medical education.
